Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fishing Vessel Licences.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

144 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason his Department is not allocating tonnage to a vessel owned by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [12687/00]

The individual concerned applied for a sea fishing boat licence under the terms of the special scheme introduced to regularise the position of small fishing vessels which, although part of the fleet, had not been formally licensed or registered.

Correspondence was received subsequently from solicitors acting for another person claiming that that person had a beneficial interest in the fishing vessel. It will not be possible to finalise consideration of the licence application until this dispute over ownership has been resolved. I have asked my Department to seek to bring matters to finality as soon as possible.
