Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Board Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

271 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of appeals received by the appeals officer in certain health board regions (details supplied) in the past 12 months, on a monthly basis; the number of appeals dealt with; the number of appeals allowed; and the number disallowed under the category of appeal of medical cards. [12340/00]

The determination of eligibility for health services is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. I, as Minister for Health and Children, do not have a function in the provision of health services, or in any resultant appeals procedures, to individuals. As the Deputy's question relates to information on appeals in each health board area I have asked the chief executive officer of each board-authority concerned to have the matter investigated and to reply directly to the Deputy.
