Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Driving Licence Applications.

Austin Currie

Question:

365 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the documentation required for a refugee to enable him or her to obtain a provisional driving licence; and the arrangements made to facilitate someone who, because of the circumstances in which he left his native country, has no documentation. [12395/00]

My Department issued administrative instructions to motor taxation offices in January 1999 designed to assist the processing of provisional driving licence applications from asylum seekers whose documentation may not be complete.

I have arranged for a copy of the relevant circular DC 2/99, to be sent to the Deputy and to be placed in the Oireachtas Library.
