Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

449 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her attention has been drawn to the conditions of the site at Longstone Cullen, County Tipperary; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that the site is inaccessible; if she will have arrangements made to (i) provide accessibility and (ii) carry out works to make this historical area, which was excavated between 1973 and 1976, suitable for visitors; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12603/00]

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera): This monument is not in State ownership and consequently, Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, has no plans to provide public access there. The monument, which is in the care of the local authority, is bordered by privately owned lands.
My Department is currently funding post-excavation work towards the publication of the excavations which were carried out on the site.
