Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

473 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will ensure that Rathfarnham Garda station is given additional resources, both gardaí and patrol cars, to enable it to respond to increased demand in view of the increasing number of attacks on young people in the area and the increased population being covered. [12574/00]

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the current strength of Rathfarnham Garda station is 62, all ranks. I am also informed that local Garda management is satisfied that the best possible service is being provided in the Rathfarnham area with the current deployment of resources.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the situation in Rathfarnham will be kept under review and when additional resources next become available, the needs of Rathfarnham sub-district will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of other districts throughout the country.
