Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Development Programme.

John Bruton

Question:

515 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will provide a detailed report regarding his Department's involvement in the integrated development plan for the Boyne Valley; the funds allocated by him to elements of the plan in each of the years 1997 to 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12670/00]

As I explained in my reply to Question No. 336 on 2 March 1999, the Midlands East Regional Tourism Authority, along with other local interests, is represented on a management committee, set up to oversee implementation of the tourism recommendations of the integrated development plan for the Boyne Valley.

I understand that the Boyne Valley is promoted in all the promotional literature of the regional authority including its regional tourism brochure which is available in English, French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish. The Boyne Valley brochure itself is included in all its promotions at home and overseas.

While no funds have been allocated from my Department's Vote to the plan, I am advised that a number of projects in the Boyne Valley received funding under the Operational Programme for Tourism, 1994-1999, during that period, for example, Kells Heritage Town, Loughcrew Gardens, Oldcastle, Boyne Valley Hotel and the Boyne Valley brochure.
