Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

557 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will reply to correspondence of 21 October 1999 and 14 February 2000 in relation to persons (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12438/00]

The position regarding the persons referred to by the Deputy was outlined by me in response to Question No. 325 on 29 February 2000.

In that reply I indicated that the first person named by the Deputy, does not possess either a primary or secondary teaching qualification and accordingly is not entitled to the trained rate of salary. This information had been outlined to the principal of that person's school in a letter from the primary administration section of my Department dated 27 January 2000.

The situation regarding the second person referred to by the Deputy is that a letter issued to her from primary administration section on 28 February 2000 requesting further details of her teaching qualifications. On receipt of the details requested, my Department will consider further that person's entitlement to have her qualifications recognised. However, no response has been received to that letter to date.
