Vol. 519 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreign Conflicts.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

79 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Government's views on the continuing air attacks on Iraq by the US and UK; the steps, if any, being taken to bring about an end to these attacks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13068/00]

I assure the Deputy that the Government is very concerned at the negative effects of the continuing military action in Iraq. We are strongly of the view that the use of force should be kept to the absolute minimum in order to avoid more suffering being inflicted on the people of Iraq.

Our position on the grave humanitarian situation in Iraq has already been set out on a number of occasions.
