Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Long-Term Illness Scheme.

Austin Currie

Question:

170 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Health and Children if he is in a position to advise the health boards of the range of medications involved in the decision that medication for the treatment of hypertension and hypercholescrolaemia in diabetic patients be included in the long- term illness scheme; and if not, when he will make a decision on the matter. [13500/00]

To ensure uniformity amongst health boards in the operation of the long-term illness scheme in relation to patients with diabetes mellitus, the decision was made to include medication for the treatment of hypertension and hypercholesterolaemia under the scheme. A list of reimbursable drugs approved in the context of this decision has been forwarded to each health board.
