Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Ivan Yates

Question:

176 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will obtain the statistics on the number of occasions whereby the day ward in Wexford General Hospital was utilised to accommodate in-patients to the detriment of day care referrals, putting pressure on staff associated with the day ward; if additional medical beds will be provided at Wexford General Hospital as proposed in the national development plan; if so when; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13523/00]

The provision of services in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the South Eastern Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to supply the statistical information requested directly to the Deputy.

The South Eastern Health Board's submission to my Department under the national development plan includes proposals for Wexford General Hospital. The question of progressing specific capital initiatives under the national development plan is a matter for agreement between my Department and each health board. I hope to be in a position to make an announcement shortly on funding being provided nationally under the plan.
