Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Foster Parents.

Alan Shatter

Question:

179 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will outline, in respect of each health board in the State, the number of foster parents within each health board area fostering children; the status of the aforesaid foster parents, namely (i) married couples, (ii) co-habitees and (iii) those living alone; and, in respect of foster placements, the number of foster parents or parents who currently have (a) one child only, (b) up to three children, (c) up to five children, (d) up to eight children, (e) up to ten children, and (f) in excess of ten children placed with them. [13554/00]

The Department does not collect the statistical information concerning foster parents as sought by the Deputy. The Department is currently in the process of finalising the interim minimum datasets for 1998 and 1999 which will collate a wide range of information supplied by health boards in regard to children in care. I will let the Deputy have the most up to date information on children in care as soon as it becomes available.
