Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

320 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if alternative classroom assistants will be provided to replace the current FÁS workers at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 16; and the reason a Dublin gaelscoil is being treated less favourably than schools in Gaeltacht areas where apparently the language assistant scheme still operate. [13438/00]

I understand the Deputy is referring to a classroom assistant and not a language assistant as indicated in the question. My Department has not received an application for a special needs assistant post from the school in question.

I have asked my Department's inspectorate to investigate the needs of the school in question for child care support for special needs children and following receipt and consideration of that report, my Department will be in touch with the school authorities.
