Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Education Funding.

Conor Lenihan

Question:

329 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funding for the Deaf Studies Centre at Trinity College as recommended recently by the Higher Education Authority. [13503/00]

Following its consultation with various interests in the field, the Higher Education Authority has recently submitted a report to my Department on the proposal to establish a centre for deaf studies in Trinity College Dublin. The authority concludes that there is a strong case for the establishment of the centre. I am favourably disposed to such a centre. However, a number of practical issues need further clarification and my officials have commenced discussions with the authority in this regard.
