Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Richard Bruton

Question:

70 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the steps, if any, she will take to ensure that, in all areas of public transport, unions and management will adopt the code of practice for dealing with disputes in essential services which has been recognised under the Industrial Relations Act, 1990. [11460/00]

It is for the management and unions to agree on a code of practice for disputes. I am pleased to say that significant progress has been made in the CIE companies. Formal agreement has been reached in Iarnród Éireann and registered with the Labour Relations Commission. An agreement has been drawn up in Bus Éireann and accepted by most of the unions. Negotiations in Bus Átha Cliath are ongoing.

I welcome and support these developments.
