Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Suburban Rail System.

Ivor Callely

Question:

111 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when the consultants report on the Government approval for the commissioning by CIE of a costing and feasibility study of the longer term development of the suburban rail system will be available; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13733/00]

The Dublin suburban rail strategic review has now been finalised. This sets out recommendations, including costings, for the longer term development of the suburban rail network in the greater Dublin area.

The report and the recommendations contained therein provides an important input into the work of the Dublin transportation office in preparing an updated transportation strategy for the period up to 2016.

As the report was commissioned by CIE I have no direct control over its publication. I understand, however, that the company has already given the report limited circulation and it is currently preparing a summary brochure which will be widely available. I further understand that the company is considering making the full report available through the Irish Rail website.
