Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Ivan Yates

Question:

131 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if a late application for a ewe subsidy for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be reconsidered on appeal in view of the genuine circumstances relating to his application. [13533/00]

The application period for the 2000 ewe premium scheme extended from 20 December 1999 to 20 January 2000 but applications received in the period 21 January 2000 to 14 February 2000 were also accepted subject to a 1% penalty per working day that the application was late. Applications submitted after 14 February 2000 could not be accepted unless there was an acceptable reason for the late submission as a result of force majeure.

The person named submitted an application on 27 April 2000 together with a covering note explaining why his application was so late. However, the explanation was not deemed to be acceptable under the force majeure rule and he was informed in writing of this decision on 2 May 2000. The person concerned sought to have this decision reviewed on 11 May 2000. The review is under consideration at present and he will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible. If the person concerned is not satisfied with the outcome he can appeal to the headage and premia appeals unit in Agriculture House.
