Vol. 519 No. 3

Written Answers - Red Cross Chairmanship.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

108 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Defence when he will appoint a new chairman to the Irish Red Cross Society; the criteria to be used by the Government in making the selection; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13677/00]

The President, on 28 April 2000, nominated Deputy Andrews to act as chairman to the Central Council of the Irish Red Cross Society for the period 1 May 2000 to 30 April 2003.

The Government, in recommending to the President a person to act as chairman to the Central Council of the Irish Red Cross Society, carefully considers and nominates a person who it deems will make a positive contribution to the affairs of the Society.
