127 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the mean age of Defence Forces personnel; the likely number of new recruits over the next three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13829/00]

The military authorities advise that the average age of Permanent Defence Force personnel is 37. The average age of personnel of the rank of private, which constitutes the largest single portion of the Permanent Defence Force, is 32. The Defence Forces intend to enlist 750 general service recruits this year. Future recruit intakes will be dictated by the level of wastage of personnel.
