127 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the mean age of Defence Forces personnel; the likely number of new recruits over the next three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13829/00]
The military authorities advise that the average age of Permanent Defence Force personnel is 37. The average age of personnel of the rank of private, which constitutes the largest single portion of the Permanent Defence Force, is 32. The Defence Forces intend to enlist 750 general service recruits this year. Future recruit intakes will be dictated by the level of wastage of personnel. Recruitment will take place on a continuous basis as required.
128 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the number of personnel recruited into An Forsa Cosanta Áitiúil in 2000; the number of personnel recruited into the FCA in each of the years from 1996 to 1999; the way in which this compares with figures for each of the years 1990 to 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13830/00]
The number of personnel recruited to the FCA to 31 March 2000, the latest date for which figures are available, is 369. The recruitment figures for the years 1990 to 1999 are as shown in the following table:
