Vol. 519 No. 3

Written Answers - Defence Forces Equipment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

142 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the average age of military vehicles; the number more than five years old; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13851/00]

The average age of the Defence Forces vehicle fleet is seven years. There are 589 vehicles over five years old, which represents 49% of the total fleet. The age profile of the fleet is maintained at a satisfactory level by a planned replacement purchase programme in conjunction with a disposal policy based on the economic life of the vehicles.
