Vol. 519 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Websites.

Question:

82 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance the guidelines in place for regulating the type of material placed on his departmental websites; the further guidelines to regulate the links included on the website; and if the guidelines in this regard include party political or commercial material. [14018/00]

The civil servants in the Department's press office have had responsibility for publishing documents to the Department's website–www.irlgov.ie/finance – since the site was launched in 1996. The report of the interdepartmental group, Recommended Guidelines for Public Sector Organisations, as launched by The Taoiseach last November, regulates the type of material published.

The guidelines are published in full on the Government's website–

@http://www.irlgov.ie/taoiseach/publication/webpg/guidelines.htm.

My Department ensures that the material which is published is appropriate for a Department's website. The information to be published has to be of interest to all of the Department's customers and clients such as students, financial, media, accountancy and legal organisations amongst others.

The same guidelines apply to the links from the Department's site.

No party political items have been published to the website and in relation to commercial material only those publications printed for, or directly relevant to, the Department have been published to the website.
