Vol. 519 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Services.

Willie Penrose

Question:

200 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if requests to the Midland Health Board by a carer for dressings, aids and appliances will be responded to positively as in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who is medically in need; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14329/00]

The provision of dressings and certain aids and appliances to medical card holders is a matter for the relevant health board. The Midland Health Board has indicated that the person concerned is in receipt of appropriate items in line with his established need and good practice. To allay any concerns the family may have, I have asked the chief executive officer of the Midland Health Board to examine the matter and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Ivan Yates

Question:

201 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford, who is in severe ill health arising out of an accident and who requires specialist orthopaedic assessment and treatment, can have an earlier appointment than that suggested for early next year in view of her circumstances; and if her case will be reviewed by the hospital in question in view of her critical condition. [14330/00]

The provision of medical services in this instance is the responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
