Written Answers. - Town Development.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

251 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position in relation to approval and agreement in respect of the provision of a site for recreational facilities, a library and a Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare; if approval has been granted by the local authorities in respect of this project; when it is expected to report progress; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14493/00]

Approval to seek tenders for the construction of a branch library at Leixlip, County Kildare, issued to Kildare County Council on 18 November 1999.

It is understood that tenders for the project have been received and are currently being examined by the council. Following this examination the recommended tender will be submitted to my Department for approval.

The provision of a centre for recreational facilities is a matter for the local authority and the provision of a Garda station is a matter for the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
