327 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science the policy regarding the provision of PE halls/gyms in secondary schools; when funding will be made available for this facility to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 5; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14140/00]
It is the policy of my Department to provide PE halls on a phased basis, as resources permit, to all schools that do not already have access to such a facility. At present, the planning and building unit of my Department is preparing a PE hall template. This template will standardise the construction of PE halls at second level schools and will reduce the architectural planning process considerably. When this template becomes available, all schools that have applied to my Department for the provision of a PE hall will be considered for funding in light of available resources and competing priorities at that time.
