Vol. 519 No. 5

Written Answers. - Financial Incentives.

Michael Bell

Question:

55 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance if, arising from the commitment given in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness, he will outline when the promised consultative committee will be established to consider the role that can be played by employee share option trusts, gain sharing, profit sharing and other financial employee incentives in developing and deepening partnership; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14272/00]

The Deputy will be aware that section 1.1.8 of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness states that: "The Government and the social partners acknowledge the role of ESOTs, gain sharing, profit sharing and other financial employee incentives in developing and deepening partnership and in increasing performance and competitiveness. A consultative committee, involving ICTU, IBEC and appropriate Departments and agencies, will be established to prepare proposals for consideration in the context of Budget 2001."

The committee held its first meeting on 16 February 2000 and it is due to hold its second meeting on Tuesday, 23 May 2000.
