Austin Currie

Question:

223 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science whether a site at a location (details supplied) in Dublin 15 has been bought for a school; if he will give details of current developments including a date for the start of construction; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14682/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 220 and 223 together.

The process of acquiring the site in question for the new primary school in Dublin 15 is at an advanced stage and the contract of sale is with the Office of the Chief State Solicitor for approval. Until the contract of sale has been approved and signed, it would not be appropriate for me to provide details of the purchase terms. These terms will be made available when the contract has been finalised.

My Department recently appointed a project design team and the architectural planning of the new school is under way. It is not possible to say at this point when construction will commence or when the school will be open to pupils. However, every effort will be made to expedite the project through the various planning stages.
