222 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make the post of special needs assistant at a school (details supplied) in County Dublin a full-time post; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14680/00]
My Department sanctioned 22.5 hours per week special needs assistant support to the school in question to assist in the enrolment of two pupils with special needs. The two pupils are enrolled in junior infants and have the service of a special needs assistant for their full school day.
I have requested my Department's inspectorate to review the level of support sanctioned to the school in question to ascertain if additional support is required as the length of the school day increases for these pupils with special needs. Upon receipt of this report my Department will be in contact with the school authorities.
