Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Stadium.

Bernard Allen

Question:

168 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance if any cost analysis has been undertaken by his Department on the national stadium project; the current estimate by him in regard to the costs of the stadium including the move of the State Lab oratory, Marine Institute and other laboratories; and if he will publish all reports received by his Department in this regard. [15102/00]

The proposed national stadium and surrounding sports campus was the subject of a feasibility study prepared by an independent consultancy team led by PricewaterhouseCoopers which reported to the Government earlier this year. My Department was represented on the stadium steering committee which oversaw the feasibility study. There was no separate cost analysis as such performed by my Department in relation to the national stadium.

The cost of the proposed stadium and surrounding campus is estimated at £281 million, of which £50 million is to be provided by the businessman, J. P. McManus. The additional cost of relocating all the existing laboratory facilities and the Marine Institute is currently estimated to be of the order of £90 million. This estimate does not include the cost of relocating the farm at Abbotstown. This matter is being examined by my colleague, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development.

The PricewaterhouseCoopers feasibility study has already been placed in the public domain as a result of a freedom of information request. I will arrange for the relevant documentation to be forwarded to the Deputy.
