Question:

240 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children to detail the new medical specialities which he intends to provide in the Midland Health Board area; and the timeframe for the provision of these services. [15374/00]

It is the policy of the Midland Health Board to develop new specialties in line with the recommendations of the health strategy and to meet the needs of the population it serves in a comprehensive and appropriate manner. The planning of any new specialty must have regard to the size of the population base and the long-term viability of a quality service. The following are the specialties planned, the programme under which they are planned and the timeframe within which it is hoped to provide the particular specialty:
