Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - Remedial Works Scheme.

Paul McGrath

Question:

278 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress that has being made in his Department on an application from Westmeath County Council for approval and financing of an improvement scheme at Ennell Court, Patrick Street, Mullingar; when the revised scheme was received in his Department; the estimated cost; and when a decision is likely on this application. [15393/00]

An application for funding under the remedial works scheme was received from the council on 20 November 1997 in respect of this estate. The proposed works included the refurbishment of the houses, rewiring, the replacement of windows and doors, the provision of central heating, together with environmental works to the estate. The cost was estimated to be in the order of £500,000 at 1997 prices. Following discussions between the council and technical officers of my Department, the council undertook to review its proposals for the estate.

Revised proposals were received from the council on 22 February 2000 at a cost of £3,045,550. On receipt of additional information requested from the council on 30 March 2000, the application will be examined further.
