Vol. 520 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Dan Neville

Question:

332 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a full time replacement garda will be appointed to the Garda station at Foynes following the recent transfer of an officer from the station. [14859/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel to an individual area, that it is envisaged that a garda will be appointed to the station at Foynes in the near future.

Conor Lenihan

Question:

333 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will have considerations made into giving additional resources to the Garda in Tallaght, Dublin 24, so they can counter the growing incidence of anti-social behaviour and public order offences in the area. [14863/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel to an individual area, that the current personnel strength of Tallaght Garda station as of 30 April 2000 is 152, all ranks. The strength of the station was 140 on 30 April 1999 and 138 on 30 April 1998. An extra patrol car was allocated to Tallaght sub-district late last year and a number of members were also specifically assigned to target anti-social behaviour, including public order offences, in the area.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the policing situation in Tallaght is constantly under review and changes are made as required. When additional personnel next become available, the needs of the Tallaght sub-district will be fully considered in the light of the needs of other divisions and districts throughout the country.
