Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

John McGuinness

Question:

377 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the deplorable conditions students are expected to use at Kilkenny Art and Design, Ormonde College, Ormonde Road, Kilkenny; if he will request a report on the condition of the building and determine when the following matters will receive attention namely, the supply of proper heating system, repairs to the roof which is leaking into the classroom and into the electrical system and general refurbishment of the building; if he has received a request from the VEC in this regard; if the funds are being made available for the works required; and if there is a health and safety issue which is being ignored. [14997/00]

An application has been received from County Kilkenny VEC for refurbishment works to be carried out at Ormonde College in Kilkenny. My Department has responded to this application by immediately providing County Kilkenny VEC with approval to seek tenders for roof repairs to Ormonde College.

It is planned to commission a comprehensive report on the condition of the college shortly.
