Question:

100 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the capital programmes contained in the national development plan and funded by his Department which has commenced in the south Kildare constituency during 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15259/00]

I propose answering Questions Nos. 99 and 100 together.

A sum of £24 million has been allocated by the Government for tourism and recreational angling under the National Development Plan, 2000-06. Of this amount, £7 million has been allocated for the southern and eastern regional operational programme. The detailed arrangements for the expenditure of this funding will be finalised following EU approval.

On the forestry side, it is estimated that £0.36 million will be paid to landowners in County Kildare in 2000 under the afforestation grant scheme, which forms part of the national development plan. It is not possible to estimate expenditure on other forestry measures as such is dependent on the level of uptake of these schemes.
