Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - Town Renewal Scheme.

Ulick Burke

Question:

100 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Finance when he will announce details and approval of the new urban renewal scheme for towns throughout the country; the reasons for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15650/00]

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the town renewal scheme. The designation of areas under the town renewal scheme is a matter for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government in the first instance. I have been informed by that Minister that the various town renewal plans which were submitted by county councils under the town renewal scheme are currently being examined by the expert advisory panel. It is expected that the panel will be in a position to make recommendations regarding the areas to be designated for relief under the scheme to the Minister for the Environment and Local Government within the next two months.
