Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

129 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of vehicles which have been called to date for the NCT test and have failed to turn up for the test; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15570/00]

Provisional bookings for the conduct of national car tests were offered to 185,634 car owners whose cars were liable for the test on or before 21 May and a total of 107,962 of these tests had been conducted by close of business on 21 May. Greater approximation between test offers and tests carried out is expected to arise from the commencement from 1 April 2000 of a provision making presentation of an NCT certificate mandatory for motor tax renewal in relevant cases.
