Vol. 520 No. 2

Written Answers. - Drugs Crisis Report.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

139 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will consider the two sets of recommendations, the final comments and the contents of a report (details supplied) on the drugs crisis; if he will respond to each of the points raised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15472/00]

The report referred to, which has just been received, is being examined in the Department at present. While the majority of the recommendations relate to education, health and the criminal justice system, the issue of support for communities generally, the provision of activities for young people and issues related to families are of interest to this Department in the context of its responsibility for the community support development programme and family services. The various points raised in the report will be examined in that context.

The Department already provides a range of supports to organisations involved in combating the drugs problem and is committed to continuing this support in co-operation with the other Departments and agencies involved.
