Question:

56 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans, if any, she has to develop Moore Hall, County Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13369/00].

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss De Valera):

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 39 and 56 together.

As the Deputy knows, the local community wishes to restore Moore Hall and develop it as a visitor attraction. To assess the feasibility of this it is necessary for them to prepare a full business plan for the project.

In recognising their commitment, and although Moore Hall is not in my Department's ownership, I have invited tenders from firms to carry out a complete structural survey and to provide other relevant information in relation to Moore Hall. The tenders received are being examined by my officials at the moment.

The Deputy will appreciate that until the information being sought through this survey is to hand, and the full business plan has been received and considered, it will not be possible for me to allocate funds for any future work in connection with the restoration of Moore Hall.
