Vol. 520 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

120 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of unsolved murders at the present time relating to events in the past ten years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15741/00]

Figures in relation to 1999 and to date this year are provisional and subject to change so it is not possible to give a definitive figure at this stage. However, taking this into account, I understand that the number of unsolved murders over the past ten years would be of the order of 55. The Deputy will appreciate, of course, that many of these cases remain under active investigation and, in any event, the file remains open in all cases.
