Vol. 520 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

123 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will extend, improve, or upgrade any further Garda stations in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15744/00]

As part of my ongoing Garda building programme the following stations in County Kildare are listed for attention. It is proposed to construct a Garda station at Leixlip and to relocate Carbury Garda station to Derrinturn and the Office of Public Works is seeking suitable sites for these stations. It is expected that work will commence later this year on an extension to and the refurbishment of Athy Garda station. Plans are advancing for the conversion of a former schoolhouse in Rathangan to a Garda station. While a sketch scheme is currently with the Office of Public Works it is not possible to give a timeframe for this project at present.

The following maintenance works have been approved. Work will be undertaken on the cells at Kildare Garda station and the lighting system will be rewired. The exterior and interior of the station will be painted. Naas Garda station will be painted externally and Monasterevin will be painted both externally and internally.
