Question:

53 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the financial assistance being provided to allow NGOs to attend the forthcoming UN women's conference in New York; the plans for the official Government delegation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15454/00]

My Department has approved a grant of £1,000 each for the following NGOs, all of which have been accredited by the UN and plan to attend the United Nations Gen eral Assembly Special Session "Women 2000: Gender Equality, Development and Peace for the 21st Century":

Women in Media and Entertainment

Women of the Northwest

Women's Aid.

The following NGOs have been accredited by the UN and my Department will approve a grant of £1,000 to each group upon proof of plans to attend:

Women in the Home (WITH)

European Network of Women.

The Irish Countrywomen's Association is still pursuing accreditation for the special session with the UN and, if successful, my Department will approve a grant of £1,000 to them on proof of plans to attend.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing a grant of £1,000 to a representative of Banulacht – The Irish Women for Development NGO – to attend the special session. The Banulacht representative will attend as part of the delegation of the Irish Association of Non-Governmental Development Organisations Limited.
