Vol. 520 No. 3

Written Answers. - Aircraft Noise.

Richard Bruton

Question:

68 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if any additional restrictions on aircraft noise, heights, and permitted engine operation apply in Heathrow Airport compared to Dublin Airport. [15674/00]

I draw the Deputy's attention to my response to his question on 23 May 2000.

The position is that the Irish Aviation Authority has promulgated standard instrument departure procedures for aircraft departing Irish airports. These procedures include noise abatement procedures and comply with the standards laid down by the International Civil Aviation Authorities.

I am aware that there are some additional restrictions in place designed to reduce noise from aircraft operating through Heathrow airport. However, as I stated in my earlier response, it would neither be practical nor appropriate for me to compare the position of Londonvis-à-vis Dublin given the significant differences that exist between the two cities in aviation terms.
