Michael Ring

Question:

104 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she or Údarás na Gaeltachta has any proposals for premises in Cong, County Mayo, formerly used as a sawmill; if Údarás na Gaeltachta has produced an alternative investor for the business; if it intends to use the premises for an alternative industry; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Question:

105 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of possible investors who have contacted Údarás na Gaeltachta with a view to setting up an alternative industry at a premises in Cong, County Mayo, formerly used as a sawmill; if Údarás na Gaeltachta intends to purchase this site; and, if so, the current stage in negotiations. [15678/00]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 284 of 15 February 2000. I understand now from Údarás na Gaeltachta that co-operation between an tÚdarás and Coillte Teoranta in relation to the matter at issue is excellent. Progress has been made and negotiations are being focused at present on a particular option. As negotiations regarding that option are at a sensitive stage, it would not be appropriate to provide answers to the Deputy's specific questions.

Question:

106 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans, if any, Údarás na Gaeltachta have to develop their 12 acres site in Clonbur, County Galway, purchased in 1988. [15679/00]

The decisions on the development of its property is one for the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta to make, I do not have any function in the matter.

However, I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that, due to changes in the area's requirements and the views expressed by local representatives, it has appointed consultants to draw up a new development plan for the site rather than develop it for the industrial use envisaged when originally purchased.
