Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Alan Shatter

Question:

121 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to any incidences of paralysis resulting from the use of radiotherapy to treat cancer in circumstances where the treatment is administered correctly and there is no suggestion of negligence. [15943/00]

My Department does not routinely collect the type of information requested by the Deputy. However, my Department has asked the two units currently administering radiotherapy services to cancer patients, St. Luke's Hospital Dublin and Cork University Hospital, if they are aware of any such cases and to submit a response to the Department. When the information is available it will be forwarded to the Deputy.
