Question:

187 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when the extra facilities now being provided at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, County Kildare will be commissioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16268/00]

As indicated in replies to parliamentary questions on 8 and 15 February 2000, and 19 April 2000, this building project is already under construction.

Details of accommodation being provided as outlined in reply to a parliamentary question on 19 April 2000 include general classrooms, specialist accommodation, a PE hall and ancillary accommodation.

Question:

188 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will outline, further to Parliamentary Question No. 292 of the 18 April 2000 in connection with the provision of required facilities at Scoil Ui Fhiach, Maynooth, County Kildare, the progress in the intervening period on implementation of the project in line with the identified needs of the community; if it has been possible to address any outstanding obstacles to the provision of the facility in early date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16269/00]

Further to my reply to the Deputy's question on 18 April 2000, my Department continues to process this case as quickly as possible having regard to the large number of school building projects on hand within my Department.

The Deputy will appreciate that the allocation of funding to capital projects by my Department depends on a number of factors such as the volume of applications on hand, the rate of progress of architectural design, site acquisition, the granting of planning permission and the outcome of the tender process. Delays can arise at any stage of the process, consequently it is not possible to say when projects being processed at present will proceed to construction.

The school authorities will be informed of developments as they happen.
