19 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give an undertaking that funding by his Department for the international hydrology course at NUI Galway will be maintained; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16830/00]
A comprehensive review of the hydrology pro gramme at University College Galway was undertaken in 1997. Following the review the Department of Foreign Affairs and University College Galway both agreed that there would be a final cycle of Ireland aid funding for the programme amounting to just under £1 million for the period 1998-00. This final tranche of funding was provided with the understanding that University College Galway would make substantial efforts to ensure that the hydrology programme continued after the year 2000.
