Vol. 521 No. 3

Written Answers. - Insurance Claim.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

44 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he can bring pressure to bear on the German Government to now dispose of the last remaining Irish claim for damages from the Second World War arising out of the bombing by the German Airforce of the MV Loch Ryan on 16 August 1940; and his views on whether this claim should now be dealt with and disposed of. [16695/00]

Since the Deputy's last question on the MV Loch Ryan of 11 May, an official from the Irish Embassy in Berlin has again been in contact with the German authorities and has received a response from them on this matter. An official from this Department has written to the family of the late captain and master of the MV Loch Ryan to inform them of this response and the matter is being reviewed in my Department in light of the German response.
