Vol. 521 No. 3

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Seán Barrett

Question:

85 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if some of the £10 million, approved by him towards coastal erosion will be spent along the coastline at Shankill, County Dublin, where there has been a serious erosion of land over a number of years. [17015/00]

The coastline at Shankill is within the jurisdiction of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and it is a matter for the local authority in the first instance to consider what coastal protection works may be required at that location.

My Department has received no request from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for grant aid for works at Shankill. Any request from the local authority would be considered in the drawing up of the coastal protection programmes for future years, taking account of overall priorities and the funding available.
