Vol. 521 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Michael Ring

Question:

114 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the plans he has to decentralise a Government Department to County Mayo; the plans he has to locate a Department office in the town of Ballinrobe; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17011/00]

The Government has, of yet, taken no decision in relation to a new programme of decentralisation. I am engaged in a series of discussions with other Ministers with a view to the Government being in a position to take decisions in relation to the new programme by the end of July. As such neither I nor the Government have any specific proposals in relation to the decentralisation of Government Departments-Offices-Agencies to any particular centre at this time. Until such time as the Government has had an opportunity to consider the matter fully it would be premature of me to comment on the likelihood of any particular centre being included in the new programme.
