Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

143 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will have investigations made into a situation where the Southern Health Board is refusing to take into account the cost of nebulisers for asthmatics in claims by individuals being made for expenditure over £42 per month. [17111/00]

While nebulisers are not available on the common list of reimbursable items under the general medical services and drugs payment schemes, the provision of such items is a matter for the relevant health board having regard to the individual's circumstances in each case. Accordingly, I have asked the chief executive officer of the Southern Health Board to investigate the position in relation to the supply of nebulisers and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
