Vol. 521 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

152 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received an application under the sports and recreational programme from a group (details supplied) in County Tipperary; if he will give positive consideration to the application; when he will make a decision in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17636/00]

Following an advertisement process in excess of 1,600 applications were received under the 2000 sports capital programme.

An application for funding under the programme has been received from the organisation in question. This application, together with all other applications, is being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form. I intend to announce the grant allocations at the earliest possible date following completion of this assessment process.

Nora Owen

Question:

153 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation whether an outstanding grant of £10,000 has been paid to a club (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17704/00]

The club in question were provisionally allocated a grant of £10,000 in 1997 under the sports capital programme operated by my Department.

My Department wrote to the club in June 1998, September 1998 and December 1999 requesting the documentation necessary to draw down of the grant and informing them that the allocation was only valid for a certain period of time. The only response from the club to date was a letter in July 1998 stating that work could begin very soon.

My Department will shortly be advising the club that the allocation cannot be held over indefinitely and that it will be withdrawn if the necessary documentation is not submitted immediately.
