Willie Penrose

Question:

114 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will outline the role of the Milk Review Group; the names of the personnel who make up this group; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17635/00]

The role of the milk quota review group is to review all aspects of the milk quota regime and to make recommendations to me on whatever changes it deems necessary to ensure the most effective management of the national quota.

The bodies represented on the group are: ICOS, IDIA, IFA, ICMSA, Macra na Feirme, Teagasc and my Department.

The personnel representing these bodies can change from time to time but at present the representatives are:

ICOS: Mr. G. Kearns, Mr. M. Leenane

ICMSA: Mr. J. Cahill, Mr. C. Buckley

IFA: Mr. P. Walshe, Ms. C. Lascurettes

Teagasc: Mr. D. McCarthy

IDIA: Mr. A. McCabe

Macra na Feirme: Mr. T. J. Maher, Mr. M. Whelan.

The assistant secretary in my Department with responsibility for the milk sector acts as chairman of the group, which includes also officials working within the milk policy division of my Department.
